For millions of Americans, including me, a formal education was nothing more than memorizing facts and figures. We just wanted to pass tests, get good grades, and receive a diploma. We did graduate...but unfortunately, millions of us still didn't fully understand the incredible wealth of original thoughts-often conflicting thoughts-that have shaped our world. Since graduation (many years ago), I've learned that without this knowledge, it's impossible to competently assess the ideas and tactics that today's leaders are using to chart a course for tomorrow. It's also impossible to make fully informed personal choices without knowing the decisions and precedents that created today's world.

For me, the realization came at a symposium on the economy about 20 years ago. Every speaker had a completely different point of view...and yet I was utterly swayed by each of them in turn. Each of the speakers cited compelling reasons for their viewpoint...not just economic theories and history, but political principles, sociological theories, and philosophical and religious views as well. Suddenly it became clear that all these things are interrelated (a fact I hadn't grasped until then)!

My disturbing conclusion was that my own lack of knowledge destined me to be a follower. I was vulnerable to anybody's persuasive argument...not the free-thinking leader I imagined I should be. Perhaps you've experienced a similar revelation; or perhaps you are just now contemplating whether you are to be a leader...or follower.

I felt so strongly about my lack of understanding I decided to do something about it...not just for me but for everyone like me. The result is Knowledge Products.
